Poseidon Sciences participates in the 5th International Congress of Vector Ecology held on 11-16 October 2009 in Belek, Antalya, Turkey.  The topic of the oral presentation authored by Jonathan R. Matias and Araceli A. Lorella was MR-08 (menthol propyleneglycol carbonate) as a nontoxic GRAS alternative to pyrethroids in indoor, area wide and personal protection against insects.  To read the abstract of this presentation, please click HERE.
 

July 2009

An article entitled "Barnacles, Darwin and Marine Paint Research" was published in Paint & Coatings Industry magazine.  The article was written in celebration of Charles Darwin's 150th anniversary of writing the Origins of Species and Poseidon's odyssey in marine paint sciences.

Poseidon presented  a paper entitled The insect repellent activity of menthol propyleneglycol carbonate, a GRAS synthetic derivative of naturally occurring menthol at the symposium Current Research and Developments of New Insect Repellents during the 56th Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America in Reno, Nevada.
 
October 30, 2008
A lecture was presented by Dr. Matias entitled Development of Antifouling Coatings and Biocides:  the Odyssey from R&D to commercialization at the Marine Fouling Prevention: Industry Science and Technology workshop held at Biopolis, Singapore. 
 
Also a poster was presented at same workshop by Dr. Sister Avelin Mary and Dr. Matias entitled  Simulation of shear stress on marine coatings using a novel dynamic test system in an open ocean tropical environment

Poseidon reports its first series of studies on prevention of sand fly biting in human volunteers.  The study shows that MR-08 is dramatically more effective than DEET as a repellent against sand flies.  These finding have important implications in the prevention of leishmaniasis that affect 2 million people each year.
